The Notting Hill Carnival is a symbol of London's multi-cultural status. It began with the Abolition of Slavery Act
(abolición de la esclavitud) in 1833 when the first carnival was celebrated in Trinidad. Caribbean’s took to the streets and celebrated with songs, dance and costumes. During the 1950’s the West Indian immigrants brought their traditions with them to England. The Carnival found a home in Notting Hill in 1964. This carnival has the strong Caribbean style of its origins: Steel Drums, Calypso and Soca music ring through the streets. There are extravagant costumes, floats and dancing. It is a symbol of London’s multi-cultural status. Click
