CARNIVAL IN LONDON

The Notting Hill Carnival is a symbol of London's multi-cultural status. It began with the Abolition of Slavery Act (abolición de la esclavitud) in 1833 when the first carnival was celebrated in Trinidad. Caribbean’s took to the streets and celebrated with songs, dance and costumes. During the 1950’s the West Indian immigrants brought their traditions with them to England. The Carnival found a home in Notting Hill in 1964. This carnival has the strong Caribbean style of its origins: Steel Drums, Calypso and Soca music ring through the streets. There are extravagant costumes, floats and dancing. It is a symbol of London’s multi-cultural status. Click HERE to watch a video.
Did you like it? Is it very different from the Carnival in Bollullos?

HAPPY ST. VALENTINE'S!!

Happy St. Valentine to averyone! I hope you received lots of carnations from your friends, and sweethearts. Do you know the real story of St.Valentine? Read this text and do the exercises, and then, if you feel inspire, write your own poem. This is the song we'll listen to in class. The group is called The Corrs, and they're from Ireland. I hope you like it.

The Corrs - Breathless
Go on, go on
Leave me breathless
Come on
The daylight's fading slowly
The time with you is standing still
I'm waiting for you only
The slightest touch and I feel weak
I cannot lie
From you I can not hide
I'm losing will to try
Can't hide it
Can't fight it
So go on, go on
Come on leave me breathless
Tempt me, tease me
'Till I can't deny this
Loving feeling
Let me long for your kiss
Go on, go on
Yeah come on
And if there's no tomorrow
And all we have is here and now
I'm happy just to have you
You're all the love I need somehow
It's like a dream
Although I'm not asleep
I never want to wake up
Don't lose it
Don't leave it
So go on, go on
Come on leave me breathless
Tempt me, tease me
'Till I can't deny this
Loving feeling
Let me long for your kiss
Go on, go on
Yeah come on
And I can't lie
From you I can not hide
I've lost my will to try
Can't hide it
Can't fight it
So go on, go on
Come on leave me breathless
Tempt me, tease me
'Till I can't deny this
Loving feeling
Make me long for your kiss
Go on, go on
Come on leave me breathless
Go on, go on
Come on leave me breathless
Go on, go on
Come on leave me breathless
Go on, go on

LA JAYONA

Last month I went to a very special place with my family. La Jayona is a mine in the south of Badajoz, you can visit it and you'll learn about how men, women and children worked in mines in the early 1920's. A very interesting place and a beautiful natural scenery. It's a good idea to go there with your family, I'm sure you'll love it!

THE FUTURE OF YOUR PLANET

TONIGHT, some of the monuments in Europe will be in darkness. WHY?...... It's a symbolic complaint against CLIMATE CHANGE. Our planet is getting warmer. Scientists predict more droughts(sequías), floods(inundaciones) and extreme weather and say that human activities are responsible for this. In this short text you can learn more about global warming(calentamiento global), greenhouse effects(efecto invernardero), and its consequences.
